The Doughertys moved to Los Altos after living in Los Gatos for 22 years to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
This spectacular site in Los Altos with a view of the hills had an older house on it which we were going to add some area
to, and perhaps remodel a part of. As the design proceeded, it became a new house with an entirely different interior layout
of rooms with a more open connectivity to one another, and an almost full-glass wall to bring in the view of the hills.
We kept the existing foundation and added to it where new area was added. Working with the same footprint was challenging
but very exciting, and creating a new floor plan on the ghost of the old a definite nod to the past.
